Lavender and poppy fields are the symbol of Provence, but in reality, with its feet in the Mediterranean and its head in the Alps, the Provencal countryside could not be more varied; the dramatic Gorge de l'Ardeche, snow capped Mont Ventoux, the unspoilt hills of the Luberon national park, the craggy peaks of Les Alpilles and the mysterious wetlands of the Camargue, home of the wild flamingo, white horses and black fighting bulls.
But it is indeed the fragrant landscape of the lavender fields, interspersed with the scent of wild rosemary, thyme and broom, which has been inspiration to countless artists over the centuries.
Man's contribution to such natural beauty can be enjoyed in the beautiful spa town of Aix-en-Provence, the Papal city of Avignon and the fortified town of Uzes. The area is steeped in Roman history and architecture, from the amphitheatres of Nimes and Orange to the incredible Pont du Gard Roman aqueduct.

A tip from our Area Manager, Alex:Provence is an exclusive place to visit, very relaxed and perfect for a family holiday. The countryside is very beautiful - always have a camera handy because photo opportunities abound with the seasons. Summer is perfect for the numerous festivals that take place, although there are events throughout the year. Many of the properties we feature are located in typical Provence villages, meaning enjoying the local hospitality is a stones throw from the front door. Knowing the region myself personally, I am happy to offer any guidance you may need in exploring Provence.
