PR489 Prieure De Lagrasse

Elegant Languedoc villa Corbieres - Prieure de Lagrasse is a country home in the heart of the Corbieres wine-growing region deep in the south of France. Originally a 12th century priory connected to the Abbey of Lagrasse, this impressive property is surrounded by vineyards.

The house has a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. The living rooms are spacious and furnished with antiques in keeping with the historic nature of the building, and all the bedrooms have views over the pool or the garden. But naturally in the summer you are likely to want to spend most of your time outdoors and you will love the setting here: you can stroll around the two-acre park, unwind in the Mediterranean, flower-filled courtyard under the 16th century clock tower, or simply relax under the gazebo overlooking the pool.

This is lovely countryside for walking and rambling, and relatively short strolls will be repaid with some wonderful views. For local shops – bakery, charcuterie/butcher, grocery, pharmacy, tabac and post office – Montlaur is just down the road. Nearby, Lagrasse is considered “one of the most beautiful villages in France” and it’s very pleasant to wander around the narrow mediaeval streets, see the distinctive bridges and visit the Abbey.  You’ll also find shops, restaurants and cafés here. Slightly further on, about 30 minutes from the villa, is the quite breathtaking fortified town of Carcassonne. A UNESCO world heritage site, this must be visited! It would also be a shame to stay in this area without seeing the Canal du Midi: the village of Trèbes is a charming place on the canal, and just over half an hour’s drive will bring you to Homps, another pretty village where you can take a boat ride along a particularly lovely stretch of the waterway (you will find shops, restaurants, and cafés here too). Further afield you have the city of Beziers, which has an attractive historic centre, and Narbonne.
