And on your doorstep, a good selection of shops, restaurants and cafes, centred around a typical village square. Les Alpilles is a beautiful region perhaps best enjoyed by bicycle or horse back. Nearby St Remy-de-Provence is a lively town. Just outside is the impressive Greco-Roman archaeological site of Glanum and the beautiful retreat where Van Gogh painted. Arles is built around a Roman amphitheatre and is considered to be the gateway to one of Europe' s most important nature reserves, the Camargue, known for its pink flamingos, black fighting bulls and white horses.
