Description This unique gite Provence property, set in the unspoilt Geological Park of Haute Provence, has seen many changes throughout its long and varied history. Built during the 12th century by the Templar Knights to defend the Verdon valley, it' s commanding position high on a hill overlooking the beautiful turquoise waters of Lac Castillon has made it a valued stronghold for many who settled in the region. The village of Saint Andre-les-Alpes grew under its protection in the 13th century. At the turn of the 20th century the castle welcomed it' s first holidaymakers in the form of a girls holiday camp; a far cry from today' s luxury accommodation. Today, the castle is split into three gite Provence apartments, each refurbished to a very high standard with hand-carved furniture, stone fireplaces, onyx and marble fittings. This northernmost region of Provence is at the foot of the Alpes, so every kind of outdoor activity is on your doorstep, from tennis, riding, walking, mountain biking and watersports all within 10 minutes, to skiing and snowboarding on the 230 km of Alpine runs within 30 kilometres. To complete your gite Provence holiday experience, there is a paragliding school in Saint Andre. |
