7 days on the amalfi coast | a week in series

The Amalfi Coast is one of the most idyllic destinations in Italy and the perfect place to enjoy a wealth of exciting activities while on holiday. Soak up the sun on one of the coastline’s stunning white beaches or take a boat trip to the nearby island of Capri to enjoy a day of exploration. Alternatively, relish a visit to the coastal towns of Positano or Praiano to gaze at the array of pastel-coloured houses or spend an afternoon traversing the rugged hillsides of the mountainous cliffs that line this beautiful coast.

With so much to do and see during your stay, it can be hard to know how to spend your time in this coastal paradise. However, as part our ‘a week in’ series, we’ve created a 7-day travel guide to help you make the most of your visit to the Amalfi Coast:

Day 1: Arrival

After a long day/night of travelling, the likelihood is that you’ll be feeling pretty tired, so take some time to relax and settle into holiday mode by having a quiet day of exploration. A trip to your nearest town is always a great first-day activity as it enables you to get your bearings and stock up on some basic holiday essentials that may need during the rest of your stay. Whether it’s Amalfi, Positano or Sorrento, spend a few hours soaking up the atmosphere by strolling around quaint cobbled streets, enjoying a refreshment at a local bar or café or browsing around one the many shops and boutiques where a range of local treasures are sure to be on offer.

Day 2: Capri

After a chilled-out first day, you’ll be feeling refreshed and ready for an adventure, so why not spend your second day exploring a little further afield with a trip to Capri? Known for its captivating scenery and gorgeous beaches, Capri is one of the most popular tourist hotspots for visitors to the Amalfi Coast and promises a memorable experience. Take a ferry from the mainland in the morning and stay right through until evening when the island’s authentic bars and restaurants truly come alive!

Day 3: Beach Trip

Whether you’re holidaying as a family or have escaped to the Amalfi coast for a romantic break for two, a trip to the beach is a must. Choose from one of the many idyllic beaches that line this dramatic coast and spend the day basking in the glorious sunshine, burrowing your toes between the soft, grainy sand and taking a dip in the rolling blue waves. If you’re travelling with children, be sure to take a bucket and spade to create some show-stopping sandcastles, along with a net for rock pooling! For those enjoying an adults-only break, take some time to enjoy a good book or a game of beach volleyball on those beautiful golden sands.

Wander through the town’s ancient streets or pop down to either one of Sorrento’s two ports to gaze at the colourful fishing boats that bob along the shore. Alternatively, take a stroll around the Correale Museum to gain a fascinating insight into the town’s rich history or stop off for a delicious Italian treat at one of the town’s enticing eateries.
