7 delicious french dishes to help you get through winter


Hearty dishes aren’t the first
thing you think of when thinking about French cuisine. However, there is an
array of mouth-watering dishes which are sure to fill you up this winter.


Ratatouille


Perhaps the French Riviera’s
most famous dish, ratatouille is a vegetable casserole consisting of tomatoes,
onions, courgettes, aubergines, peppers, garlic and herbs. It can be served on
its own with some fresh bread to soak up the sauce, or as an accompaniment
steaks or cutlets.

Pot-au-feu

Pot-au-feu is a delicious stew of
a variety of meat, marrow bones and root vegetables. The preparation of this
dish is easy but the stew needs to be cooked on a low heat for quite some time.
The vegetables, meat and broth are all served separately accompanied by
horseradish, Dijon mustard and pickled gherkins. The bone marrow is spread on
crispy toasted bread, but this might not be to everyone’s taste.


Onion Soup


An onion soup is a classic French
dish. It is easy to make and will be sure to warm you up when the weather
outside is rather chilly. There are many variations of this dish, but we
suggest adding a layer of cheese on top and a toasted crouton. 

Backoeffe

Backoeffe is a type of stew with
mutton, beef and pork which is marinated overnight and then slow-cooked with
vegetables and made into a casserole. Finish this dish off with slices of
potato on top and serve it with a light side salad.

Fondue


It is almost impossible to survive
winter without this famous dish. It is easy to make, and extremely delicious.
You can pick from a variety of cheeses including Comté, Beaufort, Emmental,
Appenzell or Gruyere. Toast small cubes of fresh bread and prepare to indulge
in this delicious dish.

Boeuf Bourguignon

This classic hearty dish is famous
for its rich taste. It is prepared with cuts of beef, onions, carrots, celery
and pancetta. To create the original dish, use a Burgundy red wine for the
sauce and marinade.


Tartiflette


Tartiflette is a potato gratin
with onion, bacon and covered in melted Reblochon cheese. It is a delicious
winter dish, but be sure to work up an appetite before sitting down to eat this
dish as you may get full quickly.
