Provence beaches

Borély Beach

Borély Beach offers a bit of everything for those who descend upon it. Popular amongst the locals for its sun bathing and swimming opportunities, it also offers a volleyball area and a skating park to keep the kids busy for hours while you can kick back with the latest chart-topping novel. The beach also has facilities such as toilets, lockers and lifeguards making it the desirable destination for families in particular, where everyone’s individual needs can be met. The waters in this area provide the ideal setting for some wind-surfing spectating, particularly when the minstrel is blowing.

Frioul Islands

A short 20-30 minute boat shuttle to Port Frioul, followed by a 20 minute stroll to the beach, these islands are a fantastic day out for all the family with plenty of activities on offer or a peaceful beach away from the hustle and bustle to relax. There are spectacular snorkelling opportunities, with an ‘underwater path’ that helps to explain the rich marine life in the local seas. Panels explaining this are in French, so be sure to brush up on your modern languages before you leave! Wildlife enthusiasts should not miss these islands, as they are also home to birds such as the bluebird, kestrel, peregrine falcon, little owl and yellow-legged gull. Bird-watching is the perfect way to spend an afternoon, and play ‘bird bingo’ to make it more fun for the kids.

L’Ille de Riou

This beach is the ideal destination for those who desire secluded beaches. This hidden gem showcases the best of Southern France’s scenery with a set of stunning rock formations creating deep valleys and an incredibly diverse coastline like no other. The beach is only accessible by boat, but once there the opportunities for scuba diving and snorkelling are unrivalled. The large rock formations provide calm waters for any water-based activities, and contribute to the overall relaxing vibes this beach gives to visitors.

French Riviera beaches

Paloma Beach

Nestled on the peninsula of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, this beach is good enough for the likes of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as well as a vast range of celebrities and millionaires, so it just about makes the cut for us! It’s difficult to resist the luxury this beautiful cove can offer and we think it just about tops the charts for relaxation. For the more adventurous, you can rent jet skis and pedalo’s from the beach and we suggest a swim off the pontoon to make the most of the serene, turquoise water in the bay.

Plage de l’Almanarre

Located in between the popular cities of Nice and Marseille, this beach is particularly relevant if your new year’s resolution is to try something new and adventurous. There is an array of kitesurfing and windsurfing opportunities for both beginners and experienced surfers where you can skim across some of the bluest waters in the Mediterranean. A marshy area sits behind the beach, and is a fantastic place to spot the regions famous wild pink flamingos amongst other bird species.

Boulevard de la Croisette

Located in the city centre of Cannes, these golden sands are perhaps one of the most famous beaches in the French Riviera and gets an influx of famous visitors in May when the Cannes International Film Festival is hosted. At more than 3km long, the beach comes with a varied sea front full of casinos, well-known brands, unique hotels and tree-shaded gardens. There’s always things going on and stuff to do, so this beach is well worth a visit during your holiday.

St Tropez beaches

Stretching over nearly 5km, this world-famous beach separates the Mediterranean Sea from the scrub-covered sand dunes behind. The outstanding natural beauty makes it one of the most glamourous beach party scenes and the beach is split into areas where you can lay personal belongings down on the sand to beach club owned areas where you will have to fork out for sun loungers, parasols and fine dining. Rentals of jet skis, paddle boards, banana boats, canoes and kayaks are available from kiosks throughout the beach, as well as a range of beach sports such as volleyball. Head down with the family, for hours of sand-castle building, wave-chasing fun.

Plage de la Bouillabaisse

For a slightly more secluded alternative, this beach is easily accessible and has some stunning views across the bay to the Maures Mountains. Here you can also play ‘which yacht would I have if I had £50 million’, as it is home to the most luxurious yachts in the world. There are some beachfront cafes and restaurants provide sun loungers, so you can enjoy cocktails, mocktails or whatever your holiday tipple is at maximum comfort.

Plage des Salins

One of the finest beaches in the area, Plage des Salins is often mistaken to be part of Pampelonne, but this wilder and more tranquil creek couldn’t be further from the hustle and bustle. You can access it via the Sentier du Littoral if you and your family are happy to embark upon a two hour walk there and back, making it a fun, full-day adventure. For those wishing to avoid tourists in the summer, Plage des Salins is a much less-crowded option compared to most throughout the high season. The inviting turquoise waters are likely to tempt you all, so swimming costumes are a must!
