A Guide To Planning A Beach Holiday | Quality Villas

a guide to planning a beach holiday

There is a reason the beach holiday is such a classic. The sea breeze is in your hair and sand is falling between your toes; what is the reason we all keep going back?

Thalassotherapy (sea therapy), a term coined first by Hippocrates, might be the very explanation as to why we all love a seaside break.

The benefits of being by the sea and the sea itself are second to none. Seawater is excellent for the skin, swimming is great for your health and the seaside boosts vitamin levels and decreases stress levels.

If that sounds like a dream to you, read on for our guide to planning your ideal beach trip.

Where would you like to go?

Picking your perfect beach is the first step to your relaxing holiday. Croatia, Italy and Morocco have some of the best beaches in the world, so depending on whether you would like some fresh seafood, some tasty wine or some flavourful cous-cous on your picnic could sway you to one town over another. However, you absolutely cannot beat a classic, and the beaches in France are just that. So is the food! France pride themselves in having great food (think hot French fries, fresh sea food and delicious baked bread) close to the sea, where beach restaurants are extremely popular, so you don’t have to venture off too far from your favourite sandy spot!

When should I go?

Your choice of destination for your beach holiday will determine when would be the best time to go.

For Europe, it seems to be that July and August are the most popular months for holidaying. If you are looking to avoid school half term or the tourist rush, May to June or late September can also be a good option to enjoy the best of both worlds, good weather and a quieter break.

It’s important to always check the forecast ahead for different countries, to make sure you get your ideal weather. France usually sees its highest temperatures in July, but the wettest months can vary city to city, so be sure to factor that in before hitting the beach. Otherwise, outside of tourist time is also a great option for any country!

What would you like to see?

Whatever country you’re based in, it’s likely that there will be a variety of seascapes for you to visit, so why go somewhere else? With that question in mind, the next step is to think about what you would like to see while you’re on your beach holiday. Italy is wonderful for a mixture of history and beautiful buildings towering over the sea, Croatia has some absolutely stunning pebble beach spots if you aren’t a fan of sand and for something idyllic, France has some beautiful, unspoiled sights of the sea stretched for miles and miles, with beaches speckled with top restaurants and French delicacies.

What would you need to take?

What you would need to take with you depends greatly on what kind of beach holiday you have in mind, and where the location is. If you’re going somewhere where there are beautiful walks and buildings to be explored, then walking shoes would be recommended over flip flops. However, if it is a ‘toes in sand’ kind of holiday then swimwear, sunscreen and a good book is essential! Also, if you plan your outfits and hobbies for the weather, and you can’t go wrong.
