Catch the last of the Calvaires Illuminations in Brittany

19th August, 2016
Calling all art and history lovers, prepare to be amazed by the stunning show that is available to view up until the 23rd August 2016. Every year, a collection of the famous religious heritage sites around Brittany pull together to put on a vibrant show, taking on all the colours of the rainbow to show their true beauty, showing the colours which were once present on the amazing sculptures with technological cinema style lighting.

The main events occur at the following religious heritage sites: Guehenno, Saint-Jean-Tromilon, Pleyben, Plougastel-Daoula, Guimiliau, Saint-Thegonnec and Plaugonven, from Leon to Carnouaille. Providing the road trip of a lifetime, this spectacle is only available for a short period of time each year.

Each venue takes their turn to put on a show that highlights their stunning features so that the locals can share stories and bask in their glory. This is in conjunction with an array of local events which are put on throughout the four-week period, which include history-filled guided tours, exhibitions, Breton dancing exhibitions, street parades and treasure hunts! The Calvaires Illuminations are certainly worth a visit whilst staying in one of our luxury villas in France.

If you are lucky enough to be in the area when one of the ‘fez noz’ parties are on, you will certainly be in for a treat. Offering you a real chance to immerse yourself in the local culture, these night time parties are famed for their fantastic dancing, often in costume, where the locals will be seen twirling around in the star-lit night to traditional French music! You can take the opportunity to get involved and test out your dancing shoes, or sit back and enjoy the sights with a drink in hand; either way it is an experience you will not forget.
