Celebrate everything equine at Avignon?s Cheval Passion

07th January, 2016
One of the highlights of January in the Provence region is Cheval Passion, a huge five-day event staged in Avignon celebrating all things equine.

One of the largest events of its kind in Europe, Cheval Passion attracts around a hundred thousand visitors every year, and is now in its 31st year, running between 20-24 January. During a quiet time of year in Provence, this event makes for a great family day out, and is of course ideal for anyone interested in horses or riding.

Over 250 exhibitors will be gathered at the city?s Grand Expo in order to showcase their horse-related wares, from saddles to clothing, food and riding tack, with the show?s events calendar also full to bursting. Throughout the five days, visitors will be able to enjoy a host of competitions, dressage, demonstrations, children?s workshops and the Iberian Horse Masters.

Without a doubt, though, the centrepiece of Cheval Passion has to be the Crinieres d?Or (Golden Manes) gala, a lavish spectacle which takes place every night. During the performance, spectators can expect all kinds of surprises from celebrated and future stars of the equine world. This year?s show will feature, among others, Lorenzo, Mexico?s Marco Zermeno and the Ecuries de Faustine, a special show featuring white Carmargue horses.

If you?re lucky enough to be staying at one of our villas in Provence this month, why not head to Avignon for what looks like an unmissable event?
