Running along the southern edge of Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula, the Amalfi Coast is a popular tourist destination offering breath-taking views and delicious Italian cuisine while still having an abundance of activities for families to take part in. If you are looking for some inspiration of what child-friendly activities you can do while staying in one of our luxury holiday villas Amalfi coast, then look no further.
Blue and Emerald Grottoes
One of the most famous places on the island of Capri, the mesmerising Blue and Emerald Grottos are a must-see. A bright iridescent blue can be seen on the surface of the water caused by sea erosion; this leaves a layer of crystal-water which has been formed over thousands of years. Families can take a boat tour through the caves to see this phenomenon for themselves, with the opportunity to submerge into the beautiful, clear water – something for the whole family to enjoy.
Path of the Gods
Pack a delicious Italian picnic and take your family on a long walk along the Sentiero degli Dei, known as the ‘Path of Gods’. Walking from one end to the other will take around one-two hours and you will cover a distance of seven km. There are many picnic spots dotted throughout the trail and lots of photo opportunities, allowing you to break up the journey, so that it won’t be too strenuous for the little ones. On a hot summer’s day, it is recommended to either take the trail in the morning or late afternoon to avoid when the sun is at its hottest. The picturesque views, that can’t be seen anywhere else, will be sure to make the hard work worth-while. Not to mention the added bonus of tiring the kid’s out!
Torre Normanna Beach Club
Spend your day as the Italians would and base your day around lunch as this is often an Italian’s favourite daytime activity! In Maiori, a small town which contains the longest stretch of beach on the Amalfi Coast, is a cherished spot, the Torre Normanna Beach Club and Restaurant. The restaurant is set in a medieval Norman tower which boasts stunning views of Positano and Capri. Although family-friendly, this fine-dining restaurant offers some of the best Italian cuisines, from home-made traditional pasta dishes, local seafood and delicious meats.
Spaces for the use of their beach club can also be requested which gives you access to a dip in the glistening waters below and the chance to explore a secluded cove. The club also has a chair area to make you and your family feel at home while having somewhere dry and safe to keep all your belongings.
Skip the queues and take your children on their very own gelato tour. Not only will the kids love it as it’s an activity-based around one of their favourite treats – ice cream, but it is also a great way to encourage them to try new flavours and experience new things while submerging them in the Italian culture. With many mouth-watering flavours to choose from, there’s sure to be something for every member of the family to enjoy. It’s a great way to discover the best gelato that the Amalfi Coast has to offer.
Cooking Class – Pizza
And what do kids love more than ice cream? The answer is most likely pizza! What better way to encourage your children to submerge themselves in different cultures than trying out a cooking class as a family. Cooking classes allow children to learn how to make a number of delicacies while also learning the history behind it and where the ingredients have come from – a truly enriching experience.
It is said that the first pizza with a tomato base was developed in Naples. There are many classes which can show how to make a traditional Neapolitan pizza in less than an hour. Then, arguably the best part, families get to sit down and tuck into their delicious creations! Sounds a win-win for the whole family if you ask us!
