On the weekend of 19-20 March, one of the Loire Valleys
famous beautiful chateaux, the Chateau de Cheverny, will be hosting the popular
Fete des Plantes (Festival of Plants), organised by the Rotary Club of Blois
Sologne, now in its sixth edition.
Set within the majestic park grounds of the Chateau, the
leafy pathways will be lined with stalls of the best producers from across the
local area, France and even Europe, stocking hundreds of varieties of plants,
fruits, vegetables and shrubs. Between 10am and 6.30pm on both days, both
novice and experienced gardeners are welcome, with plenty of advice and tips
offered to those who wish to know more about growing certain plants.
Alongside the abundance of plants on offer, there will also
be a host of stalls selling and displaying equipment related to garden living,
including tools, clothing, crafts and furniture. Admission is just 6, while
entry for the disabled and under-18s is completely free.
The Chateau de Cheverny is located close to many of our
Loire villas, and was built in the early 17th century. Since its
completion, it has been owned by the same family, the Huraults, who have
ensured that the chateau has remained almost completely unchanged from the days
of the Renaissance.
