France has so many classic dishes to choose from, but the
public have decided on a favourite, with the winner being a dish which is

According to a survey carried out by OpinionWay, boeuf
bourguignon, chunks of beef cooked in Burgundy wine, is France’s favourite
dish, beating out blanquette de veau, veal cooked in a cream sauce, by just one

Both have been established classics of French cooking, taking
around 31 percent of the vote each. Following them in third and fourth place
were two more hearty dishes: la chocroute, a dish originating from eastern
France, made from pickled cabbage and sausages or other salted meats, and
cassoulet, a slow-cooked casserole consisting of different kinds of meat and
beans, originating from the south of France.

The survey made sure to ask a good cross section of people,
from young to old, men to women and across a range of social classes, meaning
these four dishes are truly the favourite dishes of the French people.
