Throughout April, the vast grounds of the Vendeuvre Castle near
our Normandy villas will be carpeted with over 30,000 bulbs of colourful
tulips, grape hyacinths and narcissus, adding an extra note of decoration to
the already eye-catching topiary gardens.
The display includes tulips of all varieties, including
hatives, triumphs and darwins, as well as new Vendeuvre creations around the
follies and topiary clumps. Hasty tulips, narcissus, grape hyacinths and
daffodils line the border of the water surprise garden, as well as a beautiful
carpet of crocus flowers.
Thousands of tulips will also welcome you as you approach
the shell grotto, each irregularly cut so that no two flowers are the same.
maze is also home to several varieties of rarer tulips, including Lady Suzannes
in many unusual colours, lively Red Princesses and Darwin tulip hybrids, with
their large red and white flowers. Purissima tulips can also be found
throughout the grounds, illuminating the paths with the ivory white flowers and
yellow base petals.
The tulips, one of the most vibrant signs of spring, can
also be found closer to the chateau, decorating the patches of lime trees
alongside fragrant narcissus.
As well as the many gardens, which also include the exotic
garden and the romantic garden, the chateau itself also makes for a fantastic
day out. Vendeuvre is one of the most beautiful castles in Normandy, and is
home to the worlds first miniature furniture museum, preserving 18th
century style and decoration.
