Plan a holiday to the Italian lakes with your kids

21st October, 2016
The Italian lakes in Northern Italy are a fantastic family-friendly holiday destination, with tonnes of outdoor activities, lakefront beaches and two of Italy’s biggest theme parks. When staying at our Lake Garda villas, or any one of our luxury villas overlooking the stunning lakes, take a look at our guide to help for your holiday with the kids, to be sure that everyone is having fun.

The best regions for kids:

Milan might be the second biggest city in Italy, but it is a very child-friendly place. There is the science museum, castle and grand park to visit, and the canal cruises and trams are fantastic ways to explore the city in an alternative way. Away from the city, the various lakes are perfect for kids to visit. Lakes Maggiore, Como, and Garda are some of the best and biggest in the region. Maggiore has the ‘Hundred Valleys’ rail, you can bobsled high in the mountains surrounding the lakes and see white peacocks on the Borromean Islands. At Lake Como, the neighbouring hills are ideal for walking and cycling and make visiting the various villages and towns fun. Lake Garda, the biggest lake in Italy has an endless amount of family-friendly activities, and the theme parks can be found on its shores.

Outdoor activities:

The Italian lakes have no end of outdoor activities your kids will love trying out. There is windsurfing and sailing, and the lakefront at Riva del Garda has schools where you can learn. For adrenaline seekers, try canyoning at Lake Ledro where you can jump and abseil into crystal clear waters. For beautiful views, trek the Tremosine mountain trails by horse riding or take ferry rides on any of the lakes.

Gardens:

Take a picnic with you and visit any of the amazing gardens in the region, many close to our Lake Garda villas. At Il Vittoriale degli Italiani, the eccentric house is a great place to tour, and the kids will be delighted at finding a full-sized battleship in the garden among the trees. You can also try rollerblading at Parco Sempione and revel in the exotic subtropical plants and architectural landmarks at Parco Scherrer.

Theme parks:

A number of theme parks can be found in the Italian lakes region, which makes for a great day with the kids where you don’t have to plan activities. Gardaland is one of the top theme parks, with dinosaurs, pirate ships, and rollercoasters. At CanevaWorld there is an aqua park and Movieland Studios. At the Parco della Villa Pallavicino, the kids can get up close and personal with a variety of animals and exotic birds as they roam free.
