provence 2015 wines

Information from the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins de
Provence has been released on 2015’s wine harvest in Provence, with the initial
details sounding promising for the newest vintage on the market.

The year of 2015 got off to a mild yet wet start, followed
by a dry spell throughout spring and then an exceptionally hot summer,
fortunately interspersed with frequent downpours. This slightly unusual climate
led to much of the harvest being brought forward by several days in many of the
Provence region’s vineyards.

It has been predicted that around 1.3 million hectolitres
were produced in the harvest, with this volume expected to produce
approximately 174 million bottles of wine – down slightly on 2014’s yield, yet
still an impressive figure nonetheless.

A vast majority of the harvest will be
used for the famous Provencal rosé, with some of the 2015 having already been

One of the Provencal roses which has hit the headlines is
the Miraval rosé, which is owned by Hollywood stars Brad Pitt and Angelina
Jolie, and has been declared as fine, delicate and balanced by sommeliers. The
red wines produced in the region have also had similar accolades bestowed upon
them – they are said to have a great ageing potential, and have been labelled
as on par with the excellent vintages of 2007, 2009 and 2011.
