Set within the midst of Tuscanys famous rolling hills, the
picturesque hilltop town of Monteriggioni as well as the surrounding section of
the historic Via Francigena will once again host the Slow Travel Fest this
Last years event proved to be a hit, and this years
edition, held from September 23-25, looks set to encompass even more of what
slow travel is all about. Slow travel is a growing trend in the industry, with
more and more travellers looking to explore an area in greater detail and at a
slower pace while on their holidays.
This years programme will build on last years selection of
activities and events, which will include not only a number of excursions on
foot and by bike, but also lectures from leaders in the slow travel movement,
pop-up performances and concerts. As well as showing visitors the hidden
wonders of Tuscany they may have missed out on otherwise, many of the outings
will also centre around a variety of themes, including land history, botany and
geology. Many of the activities will also be catered to families, which range
from scavenger hunts to outdoor workshops and a circus, which will bring the
festival to a close.
Following a long day of exploring the area, attendees can
also enjoy the variety of music and entertainment on offer that brings each
evening to a close. Among the musical line-up are an array of world artists
including Puerto Sureno, Peppe Voltarelli and Baro Drom Orkestar. Exhibitions
also featuring at the festival include images of the Balkan Route taken by
drone by Rocco Rorandelli of the Terra Project Group, as well as Bici e
Mappe, by Riccardo Guasco and Francesco Poroli, where bicycle travel is
depicted in a series of maps and illustrations.
