The Best Family-friendly Days Out in France

13th September, 2017
When planning a holiday or a short getaway, there are lots of things that you have to consider whilst arranging your trip away, such as picking the location, selecting your accommodation and organising travel plans. All of these things can build up and mean that there is a possibility that choosing day excursions and trips isn’t your initial main priority. However, looking at options for days out to keep the kids entertained for a couple of hours can be beneficial for all involved. Attending exhibitions and visiting family-friendly attractions allow your family to create precious memories together that last a lifetime. We’ve compiled a list of some of our favourite family-friendly activities around France, so why not take a look and get inspired?

The Bayeux Tapestry
The historically-rich region of northern France, Normandy, has had a long and turbulent past. Thanks to the wide variety of settlers who have called the land their home over the years, the dramatic coastal landscapes have played host to a range of settlers, from the Roman’s to the Vikings.

The perfect place to soak up history for a day or two, a trip to Normandy wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Bayeux Tapestry museum. Currently preserved in Bayeux, it is thought that the tapestry originates from Kent, where it was believed to have been commissioned by Bishop Odo of Bayeux around 1070 to commemorate William the Conqueror’s conquest of England at the Battle of Hastings.

Today, the tapestry, which is 70 metres long by 50 centimetres high, is a registered ‘memory of the world’ by UNESCO. Stretching out over 230 feet, why not transport your family back in time to learn about the famous battle? Admire the craftsmanship of the embroidered cloth whilst listening to a guided audio tour before exploring the rest of the complex, which includes a movie theatre and a plastic replica of the tapestry. If your little ones are interested in history, then this is definitely not one to be missed!

Papéa Park
If you ever find yourself in the department of Sarthe, then a family trip to Papéa Park should definitely be on the cards for you and your family. Although Loire Valley is known as one of the most famous wine regions in the world, there is a multitude of activities that are appropriate for those not above the drinking age! In fact, perfect for people of all ages, Papéa Park is the ideal escape for some family fun. Boasting a water park, funfair rides and farm animals, you’ll all be thoroughly entertained by one of the 36 attractions!

Set in a beautiful location spanning over 61 acres, you’ll no doubt be amazed at the value for money, with log flumes, a pirate ship and roller coasters all being packed into the park. In addition to this, however, are a variety of different refreshment stalls and restaurants, so your family can recuperate and re-energise before heading back out to enjoy the rest of the park.

Aquarium Mare Nostrum

Nestled along the south coast of the country, the metropolis of Montpellier has some incredible all-age activities and experiences that are sure to make your family holiday as memorable as possible. In the French department of Hérault, the capital city boasts a rich history riddled with artists and beautiful architecture consisting of elegant buildings and luxurious hotels.

However, there is more to Montpellier than the traditional yet extravagant features. Aquarium Mare Nostrum offers you the chance to explore both the sea and the sky, with a planetarium also on offer. With the aquarium split into eight different areas, each specialising in a different part of the world’s oceans, marvel at the delights of the sea whilst discovering secrets of the deep blue.

When you’re done with the underworld that has been created in Montpellier, take a trip up to space. The Galileo Planetarium is dedicated to all things astronomy and is equipped with a projection room with a 15-metre long screening dome. In addition to this, the establishment also has some of the best technology in the world to further enhance your space experience, including two 4k laser projectors that are currently not available in any other location across Europe!

If you’re considering stopping in a luxury villa, France is one of the perfect places to do so, especially considering that these are just a few of our favourite places for you to visit on your next family getaway!

Here at Quality Villas, there are still lots of lovely villas available for October half term.
