Visit St Tropez this New Year for a truly unique experience

25th November, 2016
With December almost upon us, it is probably time to start organising your New Year plans. St Tropez is a beautiful town at the best of times, but seems to shine even brighter over the festive period.

St Tropez is a small fishing village which sits in the heart of the French Riviera. The sun seems to shine all year round, and the Mediterranean Sea’s sparkle never ceases. If you enjoy long leisurely lunches and a touch of luxury, this is the perfect place for a winter break.

The French celebrate New Year’s slightly differently from the rest of the world, as the most important day for them is La Réveillon, which is on January 1st. Everyone gets to together over a long, traditional lunch and with a glass of champagne in hand, they raise a glass to the forthcoming year. December 31st is known in France as Saint Sylvester’s Day; it marks the death of a man who played a role in the rise of Christianity and the fall of Paganism in Rome.

The celebrations start on this day with feasts of anchovies and an apéro, offered to residents and visitors by the town itself. As the night falls, people tend to gather at the quaint pavement cafés where live music is often played. Stop by and indulge in Provencal food and fine wine.

At midnight, the sky is lit up with a magnificent firework display, which is set off from a barge not too far from the port.  Many people tend to gather on the Jean-Réveille jetty to watch them.

However, if you are looking for a more romantic experience, why not look at our luxury St Tropez Villas, to accommodate your stay in this beautiful town? You and your partner could be sitting in a warm hot tub with a glass of crisp champagne, seeing the New Year in together, how romantic!
