visit the beautiful conques and live your own fairytale

The live action Disney film Beauty and the Beast is taking the world by storm, and it is easy to see why: singing, dancing and romance, all set within a beautiful provincial French setting. You can also relive the popular fairy tale yourself, by visiting the picturesque town of
Conques in south-west France, which inspired the makers of the film.
The whole family will love strolling along the cobbled streets of Conques which is surrounded by lush woodland and rolling hills. Look up at the cute historical houses with timber frames, recreate a song and dance number in the town square and smell the flowers which burst out from every nook and cranny along the winding cobbled paths.
Production designer for Beauty and the Beast Sarah Greenwood spoke The Hollywood Reporter about how Conques was one of the villages in France which she used for inspiration when designing the set of the film. There are also a number of other beaux villages de France or ‘beautiful villages of France’ in the surrounding south-west region which were an inspiration. Many of these villages are fun to explore on a day trip with the family while staying at our family friendly France villas
One such villa, La Dame du Causse, is a stunning maison de maitre dating back to the 17th century, situated in a small village between Figeac and Rocamadour, just an hours’ drive from Conques. The luxury property exudes character and is located within a delightful and traditionally French village, where you can take a morning stroll to pick up fresh croissants for breakfast and then head back to the villa relax with your family under shady trees in the spacious garden.
If your interests lie in discovering the history, food and culture of France, this region will be very suitable for your family holiday. Take the time to explore any of the quaint and traditional villages, some listed by Les Plus Beaux Villages de France, an independent association which promotes small and picturesque French villages which have a quality heritage.
