For a look at a true Provencal village in all its glory, Le Rouret in the Alpes-Maritime region of south east France is a wonderful illustration. The fabulous square itself is a great place to start. With its shady town square hosting a small weekly market, overlooked by a lovely 18th-century church, three pretty water features and a small selection of restaurants, including a Michelin-star one, you begin to get a feel for this elegant little town. Moving slightly out of town, the community forest above Le Rouret is delightful. Walk or cycle around the country lanes full of ancient olive trees, colourful foliage and interesting and enchanting woods. In late July a series of music and theatre is held in the woods – a fantastic experience. You can also visit the amazing caves: Beaume-Robert. Less than half an hour away from the Riviera coastline and just 15 minutes from the perfume capital of Grasse, Le Rouret is a perfect location.
