A small village, it may be, but Montauroux in the Var region of south east France has a lot to offer. Nestled in the trees, it is surrounded by the wooded hills of the Esterel, the Massif du Tanneron, and next to the Borges de la Siagne river, which means walking around the area is a delight. The village centre itself is quite petite, but includes a lovely collection of shops and terrace cafes, in which to sit back and appreciate a glass of Provencal Rose. Being so close to the vineyards of the Var, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Explore the narrow streets with its pretty fountains and visiting the ancient village church, which regularly holds evening concerts. There’s even a guitar festival in the summer. To the south, is the popular Lac de St Cassien, which is host to a number of water-sports including fishing, canoeing and the hiring of pedalboats – fun for all the family.
