There’s certainly plenty to do in the Provencal market town of Apt, situated at the eastern end of the Luberon National Park. With a long and varied history, there are many historical areas, monuments and museums to see such as the Baroque style Cathedral of Saint Anne with its ancient crypts. Then there are the museums, including the notable Maison du Parc du Luberon, which explores fossils found in the Luberon region. But, the town really comes alive on a Saturday - market day. One of the most important and impressive markets in the region, the squares are overflowing with a spectacular array of local produce, so be prepared for a sensory explosion. What else should you do whilst in Apt? As the capital of candied fruits, the fruit-confits should be tried, and if you’re feeling energetic, hikers and cyclists get ready for a wonderful trip just outside the town, through stunning lavender hills.
