Eyragues is a perfect little town from which to explore Provence. Located in the heart of the Alpilles – a small range of mountains covered in pine and oak forests – you’ll be delighted with the array of walks through steep roads and shady paths, where you’ll discover panoramic views of the verdant plains and slopes. And after all that walking, seek refuge under the tall plane trees in the large village square watching the world go by unless it’s Friday morning of course when the weekly market takes over. For a peaceful village, Eyragues loves a good festival. Watch out for the region’s taurine tradition – a three-day festival where a bull literally runs through the village under close scrutiny of course, and the festival of St Symphorien – a whole week of cultural events. And, if you want to see more of Provence, drive to nearby Saint-Remy de Provence or Avignon through stunning scenery.
