Description

Set among extensive vineyards with the Dentelles de Montmirail mountains as a striking backdrop, Gigondas Villa is a delightful Provencal-style villa with pool situated close to the village of Gigondas, well known for its excellent local wines. Most rooms and the grounds have a superb view over the countryside, wooded hills and mountains.

This Provence villa with pool is well equipped and even though it can sleep 8 people we feel it is much more comfortable with a maximum of 7. It's an ideal holiday home in a good location for enjoying and exploring the region's interesting villages and towns.

The pretty perched village of Gigondas has a small grocery shop and an excellent restaurant. Other attractive places to visit in the area include Beaumes de Venise and Vaison la Romaine, where you will find cafés and restaurants, shops and an excellent weekly market, as well as the important Roman archaeological site. Nearby Orange also has numerous restaurants and pavement cafes, while music concerts held in the dramatic Roman amphitheatre are a delight. The spectacular Pont du Gard Roman aqueduct is another option for a memorable day trip. This most attractive Provence villa and pool is available all year round.

Insider Tips

This is one of my favourites, a great family holiday villa. Imagine how wonderful it would be to stay in a place surrounded by vineyards with no-one else around ... a true Provencal experience. Of course, if you like good wines you will know that this is one of the most famous wine districts, so do spend some time visiting the local estates to sample the local wines at your leisure. Restaurants to try include "L’Oustalet" on Place du Village, which has a  very good reputation, and "Le Caveau des Gourmets" in the middle of the village - their cave (cellar) is just outside the village and you can taste and buy wines here too. You may decide to take a case or two home with you - a great way to remember a wonderful holiday The owner also suggests La Bastide Bleue and Côté Terrasse in Seguret,'Le Bistrot du 0  and L'Annexe in Vaison la Romaine.

This is a very attractive villa, nicely furnished in the provencale style, pretty colours and well thought out. The kitchen is well equipped. However there was no way of making decent coffee apart from an old machine with no instructions! The setting is idyllic, in the midst of vineyards and totally private, with beautiful views. Things I wish we'd known: The pool has no shallow end. Anyone less than 5ft 6 would not be able to stand. All the beds are very hard! 1 proper bathroom between 7 people is not great. We were only 2 so it was fine, but the showers have a steep step up. The caretaker speaks no English. No one was here to meet us and we had to wait nearly one hour before somebody arrived. The internet wasn't working and she tried very hard to resolve it for us. After speaking to the owner it worked the following day. We were told there was 3 hours cleaning a week. This did not happen. The caretakers husband was 'ill and she 'did not have the time'. Note to Quality Villas: it would be good to have a list of decent restaurants around as they took a lot of hunting down. Also clearer instructions on how the tv works. Don't get me started on the wind ............. Quality Villas response: Thank you very much for your review for Gigondas. Anytime we have a review with suggestions for improvements in our presentation of a villa on our website or ones we should insist are remedied with the owner, we follow up with both our local contact and the owner in order to reply to our clients. I respond to each point below: Recommendation that we add more restaurants Thank you for this. We have added 4 more suggestions provided by the owner to the ‘Insider Tips’ section of the villa page. More bathrooms would be ideal and steep step Sadly the nos of bathrooms is not something we can change, however I have added ‘One Bathroom’ to the description to make it extra clear and ‘deep step’ into the shower room. Thank for this as it has not been raised to our attention before now. WIFI All our owners are advised to ensure the wifi works as a matter of course with each changeover. It should have been working for your arrival. I am glad to hear the owner had it up and running the following day but fully appreciate all should be in order the moment you arrive. Pool depth We do state on our website that it is all one level and the depth is a single depth and 1.5m, however I have now added that this means no shallow end to make it really clear. TV and coffee machine Both should have had instructions in the house book. ( I understand this is missing so we have informed the Owner) Coffee machines are not automatically provided at our villas, however where there is one it should have clear instructions where its use is not easily understood. The owner tells me the coffee machine is a new Nespresso machine she bought last year. Hard beds In our 50 years in the business also with cottages in Wales with our sister company the question over mattresses is quite a debate. Hard, soft, firm, medium. I do appreciate if you are not used to a firm mattress it can be a challenge, however all the villa owners are at liberty to place a mattress of their choosing. Arrival issues and cleaning I am led to believe that the caretaker did not answer the phone to you. At this point you contacted our regional English speaking contact. Then the caretakers mother came to let you in, sadly not speaking any English. This is so unusual for this villa which we have rented for nearly 15 years. I am looking into it and can only imagine that something went awry, thus also explaining the cleaning not being done and the double checking on the wifi and handbook details. Regardless of the reason, I am so sorry this impacted your arrival – the last thing you need at the end of a journey is any hassle and the lack of cleaning is unacceptable. …and finally, I can’t do anything about the mistral I’m afraid. One of the quirks of this region. I hope it did not impact you too much. Note to future clients - all above issues have been resolved with the owner.

  • A Perplexing Mixture.

    Dr. N. C. Molden

The property is set in vineyards about two kilometers downhill from Gigondas rather than on the edge of the village. It is approached by way of a drainage channel which doubles as a single track road. In heavy rain it is actually cut off. The pool area and plot are attractive and as described although the pool was out of action for a whole day for maintenance. The property itself is a fairly comfortable Provencal farmhouse. A number of examples of poor maintenance were evident including bulbs not working in the upper bedroom, fridge and above the stove with neither pop-up plug working in the bathroom. Fans were lacking extension leads and sufficient adapter plugs. The very slow wi-fi did not work for two days as a result of an incorrect password. Similarly the television handsets had incomplete instructions. The shower cubicle is actually in the boiler room with a steep step to enter. The property is a perplexing mixture of promise and disappointment.

  • We had a marvellous stay at the villa in Gigondas

We had a marvellous stay at the villa in Gigondas the setting was beautiful and the accommodation certainly met and exceeded our expectations. The pool was fabulous and we would be happy to return in the future. I would especially like to thank Pip who went way beyond the call of duty to find me an open dentist and followed up to make sue that I was OK. Also the caretaker and her mother were very sweet. Only one small blot was lack of air conditioning but there were plenty of fans which worked very well. We had a wondetful relaxing holiday with our grown up family and will cherish the memories. Thank you for your good service.

  • Beautiful views

    Anonymous

Our observations are as follows: Beautiful views; Well-equipped and furnished; Conveniently located for attractive near-by towns; Not enough shade for outside dining; Better clothes-hanging facilities would help; More fans needed given the absence of air conditioning and the hot weather. There were only three and so the upstairs was too hot to use. Overall, we would consider using it again. Note from Quality Villas (Aug 15) The owner will address the lack of shade, clothes hanging facilities and will provide more fans as suggested.
