Overlooking the exquisite vineyards, in the heart of the Provencal Drome region, is the tranquil village of Rochegude. Take time to wander around the cobbled streets with its lovely old stone buildings, vaulted archways, and high walls, catching glimpses of the vast plain surrounding the village. Then of course there's the majestic castle, which sits proud on its mound. Dating back to the 13th century, it has now been transformed into a luxury hotel, but you can visit its wonderful cypress-tree terrace and enjoy a fantastic meal there. Then carry on strolling through the lovely village and visit the fortified Romanesque chapel of Notre Dame-des-Aubagnans, and if you're there on a Wednesday morning, the traditional Provencal market. With ancient vines dating back to Roman times, Rochegude is certainly a haven for wine lovers, and is famous for its number of wine cellars, where you can spend time tasting the region's best. With a lush meadow and sports field at the foot of the village there's plenty of space for the kids to run around in, along with plenty of cycling and walking trails carved out through the countryside.
