Villa in Provence with pool: Bastide St Restitut is a charming 16th century mas just one mile from the delightful medieval hilltop village of St Restitut on the Drome-Vaucluse border, an area of vineyards, lavender fields, orchards, truffles and of course the famous 'herbes de Provence'. Once a simple bergerie, this beautiful property has been luxuriously renovated and elegantly furnished.
The spacious and light living and dining area opens onto a pergola dining terrace overlooking the pool, which is set in a sunny position surrounded by lawns and colourful flowering shrubs. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, encompassing lawns with shrubs, lavender, oak trees, natural woodland, an orchard and a petanque pitch. There is a terrace for every occasion, from breakfast to lunch and dinner. Carefully placed lighting creates a romantic outdoor setting for evening drinks at sunset and a roof terrace above the gym building offers views over the Moustalas forest - this truly is an enchanting place to unwind!
A stroll through the forest brings you to the village of St Restitut where you will find 2 tennis courts, a bakery for morning croissants and a weekly market. This region has much to offer, from outdoor pursuits such as rock climbing, kayaking and white water rafting available in the stunning Gorges de l'Ardeche to the west, to cycling through the beautiful villages of the Vaucluse to the south. The old chateau at Suze-la-Rousse is now the site of a wine university where wine tasting evenings are held in the summer. Chateau de Grignan, just 10 miles away, hosts many evening theatrical events on its terraces, transporting the spectator back into the 17th century. Visit the Opera at Orange, the Roman amphitheatre in the beautiful medieval market town of Vaison-la-Romaine where music and art festivals are held throughout the summer and, even closer, the lovely village of St Paul-Trois-Chateaux for the weekly market.
This is one of my favourite properties, a real gem. The house and the gardens just ooze charm and tranquillity. If you can drag yourself away from this wonderful property go and visit the village of Saint Restitut a few minutes away, it’s full of history from the Romanesque to the Renaissance periods and onwards: just stroll around the narrow streets and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. After that you might feel like some wine tasting at the “cathedral cellars”, an astonishing underground cathedral providing perfect humidity for the “Celliers des Dauphins” wines. A little further away in the village of Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux you’ll find a few restaurants: Let Lui (a gastronomic restaurant) and La Chapelle, which offers traditional cuisine, are both situated in the old town, so very romantic.

The whole house was beautifully appointed and spar
For a start Reza was a wonderfully kind and thoughtful owner. He had stocked the kitchen fit for Kings with water, sodas and 3 bottle of Rose and a bottle of champagne chilled in the fridge. Heaps of fresh fruits and vegetables: bacon hams cheeses pasta rice sauces oils yoghurt eggs milks butter home made jams from fruits in the orchard and so on and on! Everything was organic and most of it local and from farm shops. We could have not shopped for a week. He had even provided dishwasher tablets and washing powder which is unusual - we have arrived at houses to find 1 tablet sitting proudly on the counter and not even a bottle of water in the fridge!! The house was very cool and Reza explained the optimum way of using the shutters during the day! The whole house was beautifully appointed and sparkling clean. We were fascinated by the history and quite envious. The garden was fabulous and the pool also a joy. Nobody had mentioned collecting eggs from the chickens and in fact we did not even notice the run until the lovely gardener arrived and showed us. Dusty the resident cat quickly worked out that I loved cats and chose me to feed her treats - she was taken care of by the gardener perfectly well but she spotted a soft touch...The night my son (private chef) cooked a lamb dish that took 6 hours to cook in a slow oven she literally sat in a haze of delight as we all pretended not to feed her! What a lovely cat and I will send a photo separately. All in all we felt well taken care of and Reza telephoned several times to check on us and offer advice and thoughts. We ate in Rustic and had the best meal of the whole trip there. We enjoyed the Tour de France and all the spectacle. I will now stop thinking of it as silly men on bikes! Our only comment is the sun loungers desperately needed replacing and adding to as there were only 3 that allowed for lying down and they were pretty much shot but it did not diminish the wonderful time and we hope to return next year. I only mention it for future guests. (COMPANY NOTE - OWNER HAS BEEN INFORMED OF THIS NEED TO CHANGE THEM)
So in conclusion we thank you for finding us something so fantastic at the last second and for all your help and time.
Enjoy the rest of the summer

p.s. the train from the airport was brilliant as both our sons arrived and left on different days to us and each other - it was close enough and they both found the journey easy.
We had a great stay!
We had a great stay! The location is good: nice little historical towns and a lot of wineries around, naturally. Close to A8 and relatively close to Avignon as well. The villa, the garden, many terraces and pool are all truly wonderful. Very good for just relaxing and some tennis, jogging, biking, table tennis, good food and wine. A couple of good restaurants in walking distance. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Easy to get around. A bit warm to sleep if temperature starts getting over 35 C due to lack of air conditioning.
A beautiful villa
Mrs J Fissenden
We thought it was a beautiful villa, very well presented in a stunning and very secluded position. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Stay at Bastide St Restitut
The villa and its location were beautiful, the owner most helpful, and a very generous and thoughtful range of food and drink was there for us on arrival, without being requested.
