At the foot of the Mont Ventoux, perched on a rock overlooking beautiful old vineyards and cherry tree orchards, is the lovely provencal town of Venasque. Located in the Vaucluse region of south east France, Venasque is surrounded by ramparts in various states of disrepair, but this doesn't in any way detract from the beauty of this medieval town. Boasting steep winding lanes, ancient stone houses, a few shops and some lovely welcoming restaurants, this is one pretty place to stroll through. There's also the Notre Dame church, chapel and 11th century baptistery for those who want to take in some of the more historical sites. Outside of the town the Mount Vaucluse, and forests encircling the village, offer picture-perfect trails for cycling and walking around. Look out for the rock dwellings piled together to create dome huts.
