For a taste of Provence, and a wonderful beach, head for the seaside town of St Aygulf, between St Raphael and St Tropez, in southern France. In the town itself, you’ll find everything you want for your stay. Apart from a daily vegetable market, it has bakeries, grocery stores, lovely restaurants and numerous boutiques so you can shop to your heart’s content. When you’ve tired of shopping, why not walk it off on one of the prettiest and longest beaches on the Cote d’Azur. The coastal path along St Aygulf takes in smaller beaches and coves where you can simply enjoy the sun or take a dip in the refreshing waters. There’s also the Etangs de Villepey – a natural reserve. Home to around 240 bird species, you’ll spot many exotic birds on their migratory path in May and September – a wonderful time to visit. For those who like a quirky tradition, make sure you’re there when they produce giant omelettes as part of the town’s celebrations. Cooked in three metre dishes, using 14,400 eggs, and stirred by giant wooden spoons, almost 4,000 people get to feast on the omelettes. You then have the opportunity to run it off in a 10km fun run – of course!
