The spa town of Cambo les Bains, in the Labourd region of French Basque Country is certainly full of life. Bursting with hotels, bars and restaurants in the newer part of town, typical Basque style buildings with red and green shutters in the old town, plenty of open spaces and parks, and a very mild climate which has attracted many notable figures, there’s a lot to see and do. One of the real treats in the town is a visit to Villa Arnaga, the home of Edmond Rostand, author of Cyrano de Bergerac. He loved Cambo-les-Baines so much he decided to build a villa there, which you can walk around. As well as interesting Basque architecture and stunning gardens, there’s a lot of memorabilia from his various film and theatre productions. If you really want to treat yourself, pay a visit to the Thermes at Cambo, and book a treatment, or just wander around this fabulous art deco building with gardens full of palms and flowers.
