Dordogne France vacation chateau - Chateau de Redon is a beautiful example of a classic French chateau. Set in attractive private grounds with views over vineyards and countryside, and with a particularly large heated pool, this thoughtfully refurbished property makes an excellent base for a holiday in the Dordogne. Internally, the highly appealing contemporary-style decor creates a relaxing atmosphere. The location is also ideal, since it is only ten minutes' drive from Tourtoirac. Here you will find local shops and a restaurant, as well as some nice picnic spots along the banks of the Auvezere river. The village is famous for its 1000-year-old abbey and also for its amazing caves, which opened to the public in 2010. The larger town of Hautefort is also just a ten-minute drive from the chateau, and here you will find more restaurants, a baker, a butcher, various shops, a supermarket and pavement cafes... there is also a small market on Wednesday mornings. Don't miss a visit to the imposing chateau and its beautiful gardens, a UNESCO world heritage site.

For days out, the world-famous Lascaux II caves are only half an hour away, and the fascinating Grottes de Villars about an hour. You can reach Sarlat with its atmospheric medieval centre in under an hour, and several of the most attractive towns and villages along the river Dordogne would also make good days out. One of France's "most beautiful villages" - St Leon sur Vezere - is not far either. If you appreciate history, chateaux, prehistoric painted caves with stunning rock formations, natural beauty, great cuisine and authentic rural France, you will find it all here in the Perigord Noir region.

“ Chateau de Redon is located in the heart of lush countryside but there is a wealth of things to do nearby. Tortoirac is a small village with real charm and Perigueux is a great town, busy of course but with a great atmosphere. Brantome should be visited, it's so quaint and there are a couple of good restaurants on the banks of the river, as well as the majestic abbey. And you should definitely take in the local Chateau de Hautefort during your holiday - you don't have to be a history buff to enjoy this magnificent castle. The Lascaux caves should also be on your agenda - you can take a boat ride through the cave complex. Overall, this is a first class area for sightseeing, for enjoying some excellent restaurants offering the best of the region's food and wines, and for experiencing authentic France at its best. ”
