Description

Set in an enviable position in the heart of a lush Perigord Noir forest, this is a stunning country villa with heated pool overlooking the Dordogne river and its enchanting valley. This family-friendly villa also boasts table tennis and a boules pitch; all this just a short walk from the Cingle de Montfort, a local beauty spot and natural loop on the river Dordogne and the village of Montfort, with 3 restaurants and a bakery. Canoes can be hired from Carsac Aillac, a 10 minute drive away, which also has great amenities. The charm of this self-catered property lies in both its fairy tale natural setting and the timeless country elegance of its décor. The magic begins as you spot the honey-coloured stonework and the pale blue shutters hidden among the foliage and continues as you make yourself at home in this typically French house. The spectacular panorama of undulating wooded hills and gentle sloping valleys provides a perfect backdrop to breakfasts and dinners al-fresco as the sun rises and sets over the river Dordogne.

Punctuated by picturesque villages, bastide towns, medieval chateaux and pre-historic caves, the Perigord Noir region is attractive both for its rich heritage and natural landscapes. Within a short drive you can reach Sarlat-la-Caneda and Domme, full of life with restaurants, shops, market stalls and street buskers. At La-Roc-Gageac you can visit ancient troglodyte dwellings or embark on a river cruise on a ‘gabarre’, the typical flat bottomed boat of the region. Further afield you have destinations such as Rocamadour, Belves, Bergerac and Perigueux well worth a day trip, with numerous vineyards producing some of France’s most prestigious wines en route.

Reviews

  • We had a wonderful trip!

Owner shared this review from the house book

“We had a wonderful trip! The pictures cannot fully represent the beauty of the house, the pool, and the hilltop setting with views over the river and the whole valley. The layout of the house worked very well for us, as each of our families had their own "wing" with multiple bedrooms and bathrooms. We were grateful for the help with arranging chefs and babysitters (who were fantastic), and in general the hosts were proactive in making sure we had a great stay. The location is great too, as you are near a couple of cute towns with good bakeries and restaurants, close to Sarlat, Domme, and La Roque-Gageac, and centrally located for prehistoric caves, river trips, wineries, etc. We can't recommend this house enough!”
