“ The picturesque hilltop village of Cortona is featured by Frances Mayes in the bestselling novel titled 'Under the Tuscan Sun' which was then made into a successful movie. Everything here is so enchanting! You must try La Loggetta Rertaurant, in Piazza della Pescheria, for typical Tuscan cuisine under the ancient vaulted loggia. Visit one of the many village markets for a real taste of Italy's authentic lifestyle and make sure you don't miss any of the food sagre (local food festivals) organised during the summer and autumnal months.
We were delighted with the villa
We were delighted with the villa which was very clean, peaceful and in a beautiful position overlooking the Chiana valley. It was ideal for 2 people. The owners were charming and helpful; but not in the least intrusive.
Nido Cortona is a fantastic villa
Nido Cortona is a fantastic villa and exceeded all our expectations - it's even better than it looks on the website! It's spotlessly clean and very well maintained throughout, outside too. The owners live next door and were incredibly helpful and very hospitable - especially on our arrival when we got slightly lost and had to call them (the driving instructions could be tweaked and improved). The views from the villa are glorious - looking out across the Tuscany plain and over to Cortona, and we spent a lot of time relaxing by the pool and enjoying the views. There are loads of good restaurants and shopping near by, and it's a good location for exploring Tuscany and Umbria. The service from the local area manager was also excellent - we didn't meet her but she was in touch (via text) on the first day to make sure everything was okay and called us within an hour of our departure because we'd left something behind.
We stayed here for a week in July and August 2014. It is fantastic,. The owner and her family could not have been more welcoming. It is tucked up in the hills and you really have to drive to get anywhere, but if it is peace you want you must book. Heaven on earth! Clean, food welcome pack was brilliant. Just what we wanted. Would love to go back!
