Just south-east of Siena, in the Crete Senesi – a picturesque landscape of hills, woods, pretty villages and distinctive grey coloured soil – sits the little town of San Giovanni d’Asso. A small Tuscan town with a delightful medieval historic centre, here you can visit the grand castle overlooking the town with its white truffle museum, or the two lovely churches of San Giovanni Battista and San Pietro in Villore. If you’re fortunate enough to visit in November, be sure to attend the Truffle Festival for a gastronomic treat. Delicious cereals, vines and olives are cultivated in the surrounding hills, and walks through the amazing patchwork of landscapes, stopping at pretty villages, and ancient vineyards are just wonderful. Nearby towns of Montepulciano and stunning Siena must be seen whilst in the area – memories that will stay with you forever.
