Italian village rental - This charming historic residence is part of a larger building, located in the village of San Giovanni d'Asso, just beyond the original castle walls and a short walk to the centre.
With origins dating back to the 15th century this property certainly has character, with classic Tuscan tiling on the floors and beamed ceilings. Air-conditioning in the bedrooms ensures up-to-date comforts and a position on the edge of the village affords lovely views over the most beautiful Tuscan landscape to the rear of the house.
This ancient village - it dates back to the Etruscan civilisation - has a small selection of excellent restaurants, one of which is listed in the Michelin book, plus a café/bar, supermarket, bakery and butcher. In addition, there is a castle which hosts a white truffle market each year. Drive in any direction out of San Giovanni and you are immediately travelling through quintessential Tuscany; a beautiful landscape of rolling hills dotted with rows of cypress trees and medieval hilltop villages. The thermal spa town of San Quirico d'Orcia is within a 15-minute drive, and Montalcino and Pienza are only about twenty minutes by car.

Imagine sitting on the peaceful terrace by the pool, overlooking the green Tuscan countryside ... the accommodation inside this villa is very comfortable and ideal for a family or small group of friends. You are right in the heart of the village but you will be lured by the charms of the many historic hilltop towns nearby - the lovely Montalcino, for example, which is famous for its prestigious ‘Brunello’ wine. If you appreciate food, you will want to sample the local white truffle of San Giovanni d’Asso ... and don’t miss the opportunity of trying out the wonderful thermal baths a short distance away at Rapolano. Also close to the villa and well worth a visit is Bosco della Ragnaia, the famous garden created by American artist Sheppard Craige which houses some of his sculptures. For city sightseeing, you are particulary close to Siena. If you are here between mid-May and the end of October, do take a ride on the "Treno Natura’ from Siena (Sundays only) - this is such a lovely way to see the Sienese countryside: the train passes through the breathtakingly beautiful Val d'Orcia, which is a World Heritage Site. There's something for everyone here.”
In a perfect spot
In a perfect spot - a typical Tuscan hilltop village; quiet but convenient with 2 restaurants (one of them excellent) and several other small shops. Ideal location for visiting central Tuscany yet away from the tourist crowds. Lovely old house but with 21st century facilities. We all had a lovely holiday and would highly recommend Casa Giovanni for groups of all ages.
a wonderful stay
We had a wonderful stay at Villa Giovanni, the views from the villa were beautiful, and we felt that it was very private and not overlooked by other properties. The owner showed us around the property on our arrival, and we found it to be very comfortable and well situated for exploring Siena, Florence and some of the smaller villages in the vicinity. The hotel behind the property had a wonderful restaurant that provided us with the best meal of our trip
