In the mystical region of Umbria, full of churches, expansive lush green mountains and rolling countryside, you'll find some lovely intimate towns, and one of these is certainly Avigliano Umbro. Located in the Province of Terni, south of Perugia, this tiny medieval village has a lot to offer. Here you'll enter through the Porta Vecchia - a fabulous gate, and see the historic Church of Sant'Egidio with baroque-style frescoes and a lovely tower in the square. There are also a few restaurants within the village - pizzerias and those serving typical Umbrian fare. The surrounding countryside is quite beautiful - hills full of beech, chestnut and old oak trees, and nearby is the village of Dunarobba with its fossil forest - a peculiar sight, as the trees have been fossilised upright. With celebrated cities of Todi, Orvieto and Spoleto nearby, it's a perfect place to explore Italy's, green heart.
