Villa rental with tennis in southern Umbria: Il Girasole is a traditional country villa situated in the heart of a very rural area just on the border between Umbria and northern Lazio. Surrounded by acres of farmland, olive groves and orchards Il Girasole enjoys a private pool and tennis court, and stunning views across sunflower fields, forested hills and the hilltop village of Otricoli, only one mile away.

In such an idyllic and verdant setting guests staying at Il Girasole will take pleasure in dipping into the azure water of the pool or sipping a cold drink as they relax under the shade of tall, mature trees. More energetic types will enjoy a tennis match on the villa's private tennis court or table tennis.

The situation of Il Girasole in the area known as Tuscia makes it the perfect base for exploring Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio with their rich Latin/Etruscan heritage, unspoilt natural landscapes, hot springs, fortified hilltop villages, archaeological sites and aristocratic palaces. The famous Marmore waterfalls are just a 40-minute drive away and make an unforgettable excursion. This whole province of Viterbo north of Rome is dotted with monasteries, towers, medieval hamlets, artistic treasures, lakes and beaches. Viterbo itself, forty minutes to the west, is a splendidly preserved medieval town well worth visiting. The small town of Bomarzo features an unusual park, dotted with bizarre, monster-like sculptures; Caprarola, Ronciglione and Nepi boast some of the richest palaces in Italy built by influential Roman families. Within an hourís drive of Il Girasole you will find Lake Bracciano, and also Lake Bolsena with its typical volcanic black beach. Further west the Tyrrhenian coast offers some beautiful sandy beaches and excellent sea-food restaurants. Donít forget that Rome is only an hourís drive from the villa, or you can take the fast train from Orte which will get you there in 50 minutes - a great day out for everyone!

“ The surrounding area, villages and towns are superb. The villa is situated in the countryside with gorgeous views of the rolling patchwork of hills covered with olive groves, vineyards and wheat fields. The house is spacious with large bedrooms and comfortable beds and I certainly would recommend it for families with teenagers and young children. The Marmore waterfalls are well worth a family visit, and a day out in Rome would make a fun change of pace. If you happen to be here in early September, don't miss the spectacular feast of Santa Rosa with the most imposing and magical procession canopy ever designed: a 30-metre high tower dedicated to the patron Saint of Viterbo, weighing half a ton and lit up with hundreds of candles. This "Macchina di Santa Rosa" as they call it, it is carried on the shoulder by a hundred men all dressed in white with a red band around their waist. A truly fascinating spectale to watch! ”
