With a piazza that’s often used as a film location, you know you’re going to be in for a treat. Todi, in Umbria, is an architectural delight, and well worth a visit. Perched on two hills, overlooking the river Tiber, it’s an impressive sight from outside and in. Behind its impressive Etruscan and Roman walls, you will find a plethora of medieval monuments in the Piazza del Popolo including the Cathedral, the Palazzo del Capitano, the Palazzo del Priore and the Palazzo del Popolo, all of which demand attention and rightly so. But, this picturesque town isn’t just about grand historic buildings, the pretty back streets lined with stone houses are a pleasure to walk around. Pizzaries are plentiful in Todi, as are restaurants serving more typical Umbrian fare. Nearby there are even Michelin-starred restaurants for a spot of fine dining. In July, there’s an International Hot Air Balloon Grand Prix. Apart from an impressive sight, you too can enjoy a balloon ride across the beautiful Umbrian countryside.
