Set on Italy’s fourth biggest lake, Lago Trasimeno is the historical town of Tuoro sul Trasimeno. It is here that Hannibal defeated the Roman army on a battlefield outside the village, and still to this day, bones and artefacts are being found. Today, village life is a lot more peaceful. Whether you want to take it easy at a lakeside café, enjoy a seafood supper in the evening, take a leisurely stroll through the hillsides or enjoy a spot of watersports, there’s so much to do in and around the village. On the outskirts of Tuoro Sul Trasimeno, you can visit Ranieri Castle, which offers a spectacular view of the lake, or you can visit the nearby Isola Maggiore – the second largest island on Lake Trasimeno. Take a ferry from one of the towns and enjoy a peaceful walk and bite to eat on the only inhabited island on the lake.
