Lake Como is the third largest and one of the most beautiful lakes in Italy - situated between Milan and Switzerland. It is an area of splendid contrasts. You can have the Mediterranean sun beating down on you, yet still see snow on top of the mountains surrounding the lake. It has an astonishing natural landscape, yet still boasts fascinating man-made landmarks. It is one of the oldest tourist destinations in Italy, yet continues to draw in the most modern of guests. After all, the James Bond film, Casino Royale, was filmed here. Nearer to the Eiger than the Mediterranean, Lake Como’s formidable Alpine backdrop doesn’t reduce its popularity as a leisure resort. The large body of water moderates the climate locally, giving agreeable weather all year round. The towering glacial valleys are so wide, the lake is like a small sea, at least thirty miles long in a ‘Y’ shape. The shores are populated with typical Lake Como villas and mansions all enjoying the beauty of the immense scenery.
