Nestled between mountains and sea in the Italian region of Liguria rests the small town of Bonassola. It may not be the best-kept secret, but Bonassola has remained untouched pretty much since Hemingway encountered it on his travels, citing it as ‘sweet, unforgettable.’ With long sandy beaches, and clear crystal waters surrounded by verdant hills bursting with olive groves and lemon trees, a trip to this little town is a wonderful experience for the whole family. There’s snorkelling, hiking up hills, or just the opportunity to sit in an atmospheric Italian cafe. There are a few sights here - Matteo Vinzoni's house and the Chiesetta della Madonnina della Punta, a small chapel overlooking the sea, and there’s always the world-famous UNESCO Cinque Terra nearby. But, before all of that, make sure you try the local, fresh pesto pasta and some of the finest Italian ice cream, which is quite irresistible.
