Amalfi Coast private villa Afrodite is a historically important Baroque villa set within the Massa Lubrense region at the very tip of the Amalfi peninsula, high on the cliffs with spectacular views over the sea, the island of Capri, the harbour at Massa Lubrense, Mount Vesuvius and across the bay of Naples to the island of Ischia - views which must surely be considered among the best in Italy!
Set in attractive gardens amid ancient trees this splendid and very special 17th century Amalfi Coast private villa is steeped in the history of the region and is understood to be the very place in which the King of Naples planned his siege to recapture Capri from the English in 1808. Sympathetically restored, the high rococo ceilings, decorative tiled floors, remarkable reinforced front doors and ornate furnishings beautifully reflect the period whilst creating a cool and spacious environment for a relaxed summer holiday.
The Amalfi coast is renowned for its plunging, rocky landscape and the famous ‘Amalfi Drive’ coast road offers many spectacular views, although few can rival the view from Villa Afrodite itself. Pretty villages each offer their own unique atmosphere where narrow pedestrian streets lined with restaurants and quaint little shops team with life. An excellent hydrofoil service runs along this coastline during the season, and this is undoubtedly the best way to see the region. Private boats can be chartered from the marina at Massa Lubrense close by, and there are many trips which run from nearby Sorrento: a day trip to the islands of Capri or Ischia is a must, as is a visit to fascinating Pompei where excavations begun in the 18th century are still ongoing. You might also like to visit Mount Vesuvius where you can climb up to the crater and admire the views over the Bay of Naples.

“ It will be hard to decide where to spend your time at this villa - outdoors soaking up the truly beautiful and inspiring views, or inside admiring this wonderfully historic building! The history of this villa is present throughout the house with artefacts on display, but it has been modernised to provide comfortable accommodation for everyone. In this region it is very unusual to find a villa with such a beautiful, mature and large garden - this is simply a wonderful place to spend a holiday. For restaurants, you could try the Michelin-starred Don Alfonso 1890 less than ten minutes' away at Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi; alternatively, family-run Lo Stuzzichino in the same village offers excellent cuisine in a relaxed setting - ask Mimmo for his excellent, award-winning "cremino" dessert! ”
