Superbly built to the highest standards using traditional techniques and local materials, Villa Agreste sits in a rural area at the edge of Scicli, a UNESCO world heritage site and a splendid example of Sicilian baroque architecture. Within a few miles is the Mediterranean coast, offering an attractive variety of sandy and rocky beaches, water sports and opportunities for boat tours along the coast.
Proudly rooted in the rural tradition of this land, Villa Agreste stands on an undulated landscape surrounded by olive groves and mature fruit trees. Built with dry-stone, so typical of this area, this substantial three-storey property boasts stylish, minimalist interiors, with spacious open plan rooms and even a private, state-of-the-art wellness centre and tennis court within the grounds! All this is beautifully complemented by expansive views across the fields towards Scicli, best enjoyed from the large terrace. The nearest shops and restaurants are conveniently located less than a mile away from the villa, whilst Scicli old town can be reached in a few minutes’ drive. Entirely rebuilt in the 17th century, the sight of this enchanting baroque town is simply breath-taking.
Take your time strolling along its steep lanes, admiring ancient houses, richly decorated churches and the stunning panorama over the Valley of Noto, as the Arabic settlers used to call this area. Most of the towns in this Southernmost tip of Sicily have been awarded the UNESCO world heritage status and are well worth a visit. Equally remarkable are Noto, Modica, Vittoria and, most of all, Ragusa Ibla. Incidentally, this area was chosen as a film-setting for the popular Inspector Montalbano TV series. Some of the most beautiful beaches and seaside resorts in Sicily can be found along the stretch of coast spanning eastwards, from Capo Passero to Punta Secca, and westwards along the Gulf of Noto.
Blending perfectly with the surrounding countryside, Villa Agreste looks over a well-kept-garden with a beautiful swimming pool and spacious, sunny terraces, all framed by typical dry-stone walls. Guests are also welcome to use a private tennis court and an exclusive wellness area with sauna, hammam, Jacuzzi bath and multi-sensory shower. Despite its traditional look, the property's interior is contemporary with its use of space and minimalist style. Ideal for large families or groups of friends looking for a relaxing holiday in Sicily, this villa is a perfect base for exploring the nearby baroque towns of Ragusa Ibla, Modica, Noto, Syracuse in the Val di Noto. All these places have been made famous by the Italian writer Andrea Camilleri and his fictional character Inspector Montalbano. The evocative fishing villages of Sampieri, Donnalucata and Punta Secca, all used as a film-setting, are also renowned for their golden, sandy beaches.

We spent a great week in this fabulous villa at Easter. The pictures do not really do the villa justice ,it is definitely the best of many villas we have stayed at in Italy, beautifully finished and very well equipped. The owner could not have been more helpful and friendly and gave us a super selection of food and drink when we arrived. Great place for kids who are old enough to swim and play tennis and football. We will definitely return.
