Laid-back glamour is pretty much the state of play in Cap Ferret, a small sandy peninsula due west of Bordeaux. Known as the French oyster capital, here you can enjoy these tasty little morsels washed down with a fine glass of Bordeaux Blanc, of course. On the bassin side of the cape, explore rock pools with your little ones and marvel at the antique yachts, or discover the golden sand and dunes of the beach in the west. Here you'll find surfers making the most of this delightful clear-blue water. There's also ample pine forests to stroll or cycle through, which really are quite magical. The village itself is lovely and boasts some wonderful boutiques, bars, restaurants and oyster shacks. And, home to some fantastic villas, this rocky peninsula is bursting with character. It even has a well-known lighthouse you can climb to the top of and gain a stunning view of the Peninsula.
