Touffailles, Tarn-et-Garonne, South West France | Sleeps 6

Tourelle

French country cottage in village South West France - just a stone's throw from the village bakery, post office and local tennis court, Tourelle is a pretty stone-built villa with an attractive tower, gardens and pool.

Set right in the heart of the rural, green landscapes of the area known as Quercy Blanc, this charming property makes a superb base if you want rest and relaxation as well as the opportunity to experience the very best this region has to offer. If you are keen to get to know the area there are many places well worth visiting for day trips: pink-bricked Montauban with its attractive arcaded central square, Moissac with its famous cloisters and abbey, Cahors with its Valentre bridge, good shopping and the river Lot for boat trips, and the historic city of Toulouse with its opera house and rich cultural life.

The Quercy Blanc area is noted for its high quality gastronomic produce and cuisine so during your stay at Tourelle do try some local restaurants and take time to wander round the local markets, such as the market in Montcuq every Sunday. Duck, goose, truffles, fruit preserves and the local red wines (especially the very dark reds of Cahors) are all regional specialities.

Tennis, golf, walking, cycling, riding, fishing and parachuting are all available locally, and the Parc Walabi theme park near Agen is always a popular choice for parents and children alike. You can certainly find something for everyone to enjoy during a holiday at this French country cottage in village South West France,

‘Villa was very well equipped. ’
by: Greg Salthouse
This villa has a history to it and is very characterful. The guest book says it many times over but Steve, the caretaker, was there when needed and invisible when not. I benefitted from his local knowledge and was intrigued by the history of the place. He just gave as much or as little as you needed. The proximity of the main house is absolutely not a problem. In fact, with the large grounds supplied, it is a benefit. When you do need something help is immediate. You may like to make more of the outside space. There is the pool area. Shaded table tennis outside, room for a badminton court, which we erected and still an almost football size pitch with a goal on another level. There is still the swing and the outside eating area which is cool and shady morning and evening. The village is exceptionally quiet and peaceful. We were expecting this and were not disappointed. The bakery was useful. Otherwise there is nothing. Which was fine for us as we like self catering. Plenty of interesting places locally but a car is essential.

The Local View
This property is a landmark in the village of Touffailles, with its unusual turret and manor house within the grounds.  This lovely, rural countryside area with its many medieval villages is very popular yet still retains a peaceful and “days gone by” atmosphere. The night markets in July & August are excellent in St Maurin, Bourg de Visa and Lauzerte.  The Auberge in Miramont de Quercy (3 mins) is excellent as is the English-run restaurant La Sirene in Montaigu de Quercy.
